KPU Sociology instructor Seema Ahluwalia invites you all for a small event to be held TODAY at 3:00PM, KPU Surrey, Room C3850 (Surrey Main). Love water not oil #NOpipelines #NOfracking #NOtarsands #NoDAPL#StandingRock #WaterisLife
From Seema Ahluwalia:
Today allies of the Dakota/Lakota people at Standing Rock are calling for a day of Solidarity.
I have not had time to organize much but this struggle is personal and political to my family as my partner is Lakota and his nation has worked hard to stop the Keystone XL and now Dakota Access Pipeline is threatening their relatives in Standing Rock.
We are presenting a small event at 3:00 today in solidarity. We are hoping to have it at the Sociology Department space in Surrey, Room C3850 (Surrey Main). Everyone is welcome – here’s info on what we are doing:
Carl Boneshirt, Sr. is a Sicangu Lakota ikce wicasa (common man). He will come to KPU tomorrow and offer four traditional songs for Mni Wiconi (the sacred water of life) and for his people and their allies at Standing Rock.
1)The Sioux National Anthem
2)a Four Directions song
3)a song for Grandmother Earth and the Sacred Water of Life
4)a Lakota song of belonging to this continent
Traditional Lakota Knowledge related to the contemporary relevance of these songs will be shared. Information will be shared about how people can help, where/how to send financial support, and the best sources of information.
